Top 3 Reasons to Visit Turin's Parco del Valentino

If you're in Turin for a few days and looking for all the best tourist attractions, this gorgeous green space has a lot to offer. Il Parco del Valentino is a 500,000 square-meter park in the southern Turin neighborhood of San Salvario.

Turin's Parco del Valentino is the city's oldest park, its second largest park, and arguably its most popular, for both tourists and locals alike. It has a number of interesting sights, so you'll definitely want to stop by for a quick visit during your trip to Turin.

1 | Where to Get Great Views of the River Po

The River Po is a gorgeous landmark in Turin that every tourist should make a point to visit. It's well maintained, with beautiful landscaping and a walking path along it on both sides of the city. Below is a view of the River Po from one of Turin's best bridges.

Where to See the River Po in Turin, Italy

If you're in Turin and looking to see this famous waterway, you'll be glad to know that it's not hard to get to. Conveniently, you can see it from the very south edge of the gorgous Parco del Valentino, which is obviously a popular tourist attraction in its own right.

The park is built on the riverside and riverbank of the River Po, so you can get a great view of the river and this bridge from still within the boundaries of the park. To get this great viewpoint, I started at the fountain discussed below and walked south down a running path for maybe three minutes.

2 | Parco del Valentino's famous fountain: La Fontana dei Dodici Mesi

One of the best parts of the Parco del Valentino is this gorgeous fountain. Called La Fontana dei Dodici Mesi (or the Fountain of the Twelve Months), this fountain has twelve statues, each representing one of the months. There are also multiple fountains and a beautiful cascading waterfall.

3 | Turin's Medieval Village and Immersive Museum

Finally, this park is also very well known for its Medieval Village, also called Il Borgo Medievale. Built in the 19th century to mimic the style of the Middle Ages, this is an open-air museum with a castle, drawbridge, dungeons, knights' weapons, and more. It's a great attraction for children and tourists of all ages, and there's a really nice rose garden out front.

Unfortunately, while we were visiting, the whole village was fenced off because it was under construction. We weren't able to get any pictures inside, but it did look very pretty from across the river. I do think it definitely looked like it would be worth a visit, though, so that's just a good reason I'll have to come back to Turin!
